the labor of collecting wood
and chosing the type and style
oak for the lasting burn
pine to start the process
cedar for its spark and odor
birch for it color of flame
almond for the in between
the first flickers
stir away what webs
collected during the warm months
the heat begins a steady glow
and the screen reflects the energy
outside the wind swirls
and the clouds surround
ominous in the turbulance
while indoors
the comfort of the fireplace
softens nature wicked stance
