President-elect Barack Obama was asked if he had quit smoking in an interview yesterday.

Obama's off and on smoking habit has received some attention.  He promised not to smoke in the White House.  Here`s the link:  http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20081207/pl_nm/us_usa_obama_smoking_3

I realize it is government property but it is his home too.  The article states that Hillary Clinton banned smoking in the White House.

Should Barack Obama avoid smoking in the White House?

I voted other, because I can see both sides. It may be his residence right now, but it's not technically his house - he doesn't own it by any means. But, if he has no other choice than to live there as the President, then why shouldn't he be able to bring his habits right along with him?

I chose no....I know if I smoked, I would smoke there. While he lives there, it`s his home, and IMO, people should do pretty much what they want in their own home. (within the law, of course.)

That's a very valid point. Besides, he IS the President!  Grin

My guess is he will sneak smoking in various places.  Giving it up will be difficult.

Rules for the white house, as for my house, since it is my
house and your's too:

No Smoking - it is, after all a public building
No Hanky Panky with girls like Monica
They have a choice: if they are so weak as to support such a habit,
don't run for President, and smoke your life away in historically
corrupt Chicago.

If she does smoke it will be easier for Barak <sp?> to get away with it.

Well, that would make it harder for him to sneak ciggs, a non smoker can smell a cigg right away. I know I can.

I see your points.........I said yes because he's only in there for the time being..........but in four years that smoke wont come out of the building and it will always be in the building for presidents to come

He wouldn't be the first smoker in the white house...Smoke still lingers from many past presidents.

Smoking shouldn't be allowed... he may be the president now... but in 2 years a non smoker may get elected and they don't want the building to permanently smell like smoke
