These are some typical sounds we hear in our data recovery lab. If your hard drive makes noises like these and you are still able to access your files - backup immediately.

I know most of those sounds by heart.  Its sort of funny how each manufacturer has their own "tune"

Mine was making a noise a few months ago, none of those sounded like it.
I opened up the case, and vacuumed inside gently... The noise hasn't come back.

I bought my Pc 3 years ago and haven't had the manufacturers screws off I'm scared to see what's in there.I'm getting a rent a geek to come and clean it after New Years.

The sounds are back again today... None of them sound like the ones on the link.
I am backing up all of my important files, getting ready for the inevitable.  I will still be able to post here on Bill`s computer, when mine bites the dust... At least until I install a new HD.

When I reboot the noise stops. But it comes back eventually. Gonna ride this hard drive till the bitter end.

Sounds like it`s spinning out of control. No clanking or alarm sounds ...
