There are blue jays hanging out in my garden, they are beautiful. I was delighted at first, I thought they would help keep the bug population down, and it looked like they were collecting straw for nesting materials. So I didn`t consider them a threat to my garden.
I read online this morning that they like to eat small fruits, seeds, and corn. Bad news. I kinda knew about seeds, but since my plants are already sprouted and getting kind of big, that didn`t present a problem as far as I was concerned. Corn? I have some planted out there. Cherry tomatoes are "small fruits", and I also have some of those growing.
Going to look for a way to discourage the visits now, before my plants start producing. It sucks, because I was really enjoying these beautiful visitors.

Jay eyes.....
....my buddy's got blue jay eyes!
sort of an annoying bird if you tell me of course, the mocking bird is worse
a bit of a pest but once again the bulldog (bully) keeps them up in the tree

I've Googled my heart out and it seems the best tool for your Blue Jay feud would be A big plastic owl and hanging old CD's with fishing line.Apparently once they've made a home they and their relatives will be visiting for 15 years or longer. They also are very protective of their nests and will soar down and attack animals and humans to protect the lil family. Some of the sites I visited were cracking me up with the horror stories but they were serious.Good luck with that Cloudddae.

I did have the Blue Jay and Squirrel show this last summer. Rodent would be running across the fence and stop. Jay would come down and swoop with a bounty of a couple of strands squirrel fur as a trophy. Funny as heck!
