From a logical standpoint, it's kind of ridiculous to rebuild in a place that has had nature rip it a new one multiple times in the recent past. But, practically, how could we not rebuild? I mean, where would those dmisplaced people go? We'd have a flood of people trying to bed down and find jobs in neighboring cities and even states.

Besides, if we were to evacuate them on the grounds of "you're in a hot zone, so you gotta go", we'd have to tell pretty much the entire state of California the same thing.

Considering we can't have double-standards, I'd say the only reasonable answer is to rebuild and try to be better prepared for the next time.

You would have to tell people in many areas of Florida that, as well...

rebuilding homes is completely different than using tax money for random stuff that we don't need
