Interesting.  My sister was really into the Beatles in their heyday.  They were okay by me, but I liked the Stones much better.  Guess I went for the bad boys of early rock.  The Animals the same way with Eric Burdon.

Later I enjoyed the solo works of Lennon and McCartney and to a lesser degree, Harrison and Ringo.

I thought the Toronto Peace Fair with the Plastic Ono Band was one of the great one half albums of all time.  Side two however.............

Sir Pauly took a little while to get started.  Loved his solo McCartney album with the cherries on the front.  Once he got going with Wings, he blew Johnny out of the water, which he never got over it.  Believe me, if Lennon was not murdered, his health would of gone south quickly.  If you look that those Dick Cavett show interviews, he chain smoked and looked very pale and thin.

Anyway, the only CD I own of the fab four is  Beatles For Sale, which is the British release of Beatles IV and Beatles '65 that was released in America.  This was close to them in their peak with a couple of obscure songs tossed in.  Mr. Moonlight and Eight Days A Week I enjoy a lot.

I think the thing that will always hold me back from giving the Beatles the top billing is that they were always better as a studio band as compared to playing live.

It's one thing to hear a recording, completely another to hear a band perform live.  Greatful Dead will always be up there because just about every Dead show I went to was awesome.

Did not get to see the Stones until the Steel Wheels tour in 89.  But the knocked the roof off the stadium when they did.   Led Zepplin is (was) another great live band.  The Who is in this catagory also.
