A new study published in the Drug and Alcohol Dependence Journal reveals that quitting marijuana use may be as difficult as cigarette smoking.
Health Day News reports that the withdrawal effects of marijuana can be just as bad as that of cigarette smoking including “irritability, anger and trouble sleeping.”
The study, conducted by researchers at Johns Hopkins University examined six men and six women who used marijuana at least 25 days a month.
The withdrawal from marijuana caused more distinct sleep commotion than from cigarette withdrawal.
“These results indicate that some marijuana users experience withdrawal effects when they try to quit…these effects should be considered by clinicians treating people with problems related to heavy marijuana use,” says Ryan Vandrey, investigator for department of psychiatry at Johns Hopkins University.
Looks like there could be a market out there for marijuana patches or the gum to kick cravings!
