Another of my favorite TV shows, Harry O
Harry Orwell (David Jansen) was a former police detective forced to retire when he was shot in the back and sustained a permanent back injury. He did work as a private detctive, however, to suppliment his pension.

Yet another one, not seen much over the years. Search
Search was about a company actually..the World Securities Corporation. World Securities search and recovery division was called "Probe" (the title of the original pilot film). Probe would--for a fee--recover objects and even people for a client.
They had 3 main agents..Hugh Lockwood (Hugh O'Brien), Nick Bianco (Tony Franciosa) and C.R. (short for Christopher Robin) Grover (Doug McClure). Each agent had a tiny, miniture camera/microphone called a "scanner" which he either carried on his ring, tie clip of a medallion. This would enable World Securities back in their control center to see and hear everything their agent would see and hear. The agent had a tiny earphone planted beneath the skin of his ear so that Probe Control could contact and help their agent. Using computers and world wide databases Probe Control would be able to give their agents an almost unlimited amount of info.
Search only ran one year on NBC. Hugh O'Brien was supposed to originally star in every other episode but a leg injury prevented him from doing so. McClure and Franciosa alternated as much as O'Brien did. Hugh O'Brien owned part of the series.

The A-Team was his longest running series. He quit Banacek after two seasons (was getting divorced from Elizabeth Ashley and didn't want to let her get part of the residuals), he quit Doctor's Hospital after a half a season (didn't like the stories), and quit Dynasty after filming the pilot (played Blake Carrington, didn't like Blake being the villain in the pilot. His scenes were reshot by John Forsythe).

Doctor's Hospital went off the air after Peppard left it. It only ran 13 shows.
Ironically, it ran in the same Wednesday time slot Banacek did.
Peppard had early success in movies starting in 1961 with Breakfast at Tiffany's. He then did a series of films. However, his love of alcohol began to effect his dependability, and he found film roles hard to come by when he went into his 40's.
Like a lot of movie actors, he turned to TV, first with Banacek. The show was successful but he walked away from it when he divorced Elizabeth Ashley because he didn't want her to get any of the residuals from the show. He had an even bigger success as John "Hannibal" Smith in the A-Team, which ran for 5 seasons.
Peppard was married 5 times. Once, on the Tonight Show, when he was asked about his various failures at marriage, he said that he was like a used car. It looks good in the showroom but when you have to drive it around day to day then it's a different story.
He did a week of "Password Plus" once. On the first episode of the week he went into a rant about NBC (the network carrying Password Plus), stating how the network executives had to watch everyone like a hawk while they were doing the show and treating everyone like criminals. That episode didn't air. NBC never invited Peppard back to do another game show for them.
In 1992 Peppard was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. He was a lifelong smoker. He married for the 5th time and his final wife nursed him through the last 18 months of his life. Peppard never gave up working, however, He filmed a pilot film for a spinoff from Mattlock shortly before he died in 1994. He was 65 years old.
