Eating the evidence to avoid drug charges doesn't always work, may backfire....
SAN JOSE, Calif. -- A 38-year-old man died while in custody Tuesday night after resisting arrest and ingesting an unknown amount of a controlled substance, San Jose police Officer Jermaine Thomas said this afternoon.
Prince Swayzer III was pulled over near North Third and Hensley streets around 6:30 p.m. on suspicion of narcotics trafficking, Thomas said. During the stop Swayzer allegedly became combative and struggled with the three officers. He is also believed to have ingested an unknown amount of a controlled substance.
Swayzer was shot with a Taser gun and was finally subdued, Thomas said.
Fire and medical personnel responded but Swayzer refused medical treatment.
Swayzer was transported to a local hospital, where he also refused medical aid, and he died shortly after, Thomas said.
