Australians are the best in the world at public holidays. We have: (they get better towards the end of the year)
New Year's Day - self explanatory.
Australia Day - kind of like Independence day, except we all just go to the pub and watch cricket. And we didn't fight in a war to get it, we just removed all land rights from the Aboriginals who lived here before us.
Good Friday - self explanatory.
Easter Saturday - self explanatory.
Easter Monday - self explanatory.
ANZAC Day - This is more like your Independence day actually, it's a day to remember fallen soldiers from WWI and WWII. But again we typically just go to the pub and watch footy (Rugby Leage and/or Rugby Union)
Queen's Birthday - held in June, but her birthday is December (I think). We use it to signal the start of out ski season, and most other people use it to sleep in. It's kind of the only time in the whole year we even realise we still have a Queen.
Bank Holiday - That's right, a holiday to honour banks.
Labour Day - And one to honour labourers. I think that's what it's about anyway...
Melbourne Cup Day - Then we take the day off for a 3 minute horse race.
Christmas Day - In our summer, actually. We normally have parties where everyone sits out on the patio and tries to eat seafood in a dignified way. Oh and we don't call them "shrimp", we call them PRAWNS.
Boxing Day - Does anyone on Earth actually know what this day is for, other than to give us 2 days off for Xmas?
We like our days off...

How interesting! You have Easter on Saturday and Monday? We Have ours on Sunday... Only one day. I noticed you didn`t mention Halloween or Thanksgiving. I`m sure I speak for most of us when I say we love days off too.  |

Those are some interesting holidays! One of the reasons I love working for NYS is that we get so many holidays off. Any excuse to sleep in, go to a pub, and/or watch some sports is okay with me! |
