Just went on my second time reading this book,I first read the book years ago.It is the first book in the Dollanganger Series, and was followed by Petals on the Wind, If There Be Thorns, Seeds of Yesterday, and Garden of Shadows. The novel is written in the first person from the point of view of Cathy Dollanganger. It was adapted into a film of the same name in 1987.
Its written by a woman named VC Andrews. Apparently based on a true story, its about 4 children whose father died. The family were left penniless, and the mother came from a very rich family, so she took them to her family home. There she hid them in the attic rooms "until her father died". Promising the children it would be for only a short time, they were hidden there for nearly 4 years. The youngest boy died there, mother remarried, and it turned out, she'd been slowly poisoning them.
First time round I found it an interesting book and pretty heart-wrenching in parts. This time round, with having children of my own, this book really hit me. If it is loosely based on a true story. Going to start on the second part tomorrow.

I liked the first series. (The one you are reading.) After that...they started to become repetitious.
