What do you think about compliments?  Here's an example with what I deal with, with a certain person.

For example, if I say "Thats going to turn out great!" Personally I think thats a nice compliment, nothing super spectacular, but still nice.

but the other person always has to ask "why?"  Personally, I think that shoots down the compliment.  If I don't explain why I think it'll turn out great, then it becomes a none compliment and I was only making it up.

Make sense?  What do you think?

Yes, it does shoot down the compliment, IMO.
Maybe the person is insecure, and don`t believe they deserve the compliment...Or the person in question is doubting your sincerity.

If you give some one a compliment that is meant to make the person feel good about them self's

people should respect that

I feel the same way. Why would you ask why after I said something positive? Maybe they're just looking for reassurance?
