Pastor Barry W. Barnett paddled his son and left "purplish bruises about four inches in width."  He used a paddle that was two feet long and four inches wide.  The paddle was also 3/4 inch thick.  He struck the child on the butt twice, once on each cheek.
(My dad said when we were kids that there is nothing he would rather go to jail for than spanking a kid that needed it)

How do you feel about spankings/paddlings?

I used to get spanked and I don't think there was anything wrong with it. My Dad never used anything but his hand though. I kinda have a problem with parents using some type of "weapon" to do the spanking.

I got it with the belt. Still, I think I turned out ok.
When I have kids, I will probably not spank them, there is a very fine line between abuse and disipline. I`d hate to lose one of my children because someone decided I was too harsh.

Yeah, I know a guy whos son called the HRS on him for abuse. The kid was mad because his Dad wouldn`t let him go to some party.
He lost his son for a few weeks while they investigated.

Yeah, that`s true.
I`m not sure I`m going to want to have any children at this point in time.

I would like to, but I almost feel like I'm being selfish if I do. My sister-in-law is pregnant with her first. I can't help but feel a wee bit jealous. It doesn't usually last long though.  Grin

I understand how you might feel that way. The world is a scary place, and things are looking grim as far as the future goes. That`s one of the reasons why I`m not sure about having children, myself.
Aside from the fact that I`m not even married.

That's the other scary part of it though. Marriage hardly seems to matter today. The first bump couples hit and it's see ya later. Marriage is hard fing work. People are too frickin lazy.

I am kind of glad at this point in my life I decided not to try having children again. Because it`s not looking like the youngsters of today have a lot to look forward to.

As for spanking. I believe in them... But leaving bruises, comes close to being a beating... Fine line, everyone has different ideas of what a spanking/beating is.
